Oswestry & the Shropshire Borders
Specialist restoration, draught-proofing and timber repairs for the Victorian and Edwardian period properties of Oswestry and the surrounding Shropshire border villages.
Oswestry & Surrounding Villages
Oswestry has a rich stock of Victorian and Edwardian period properties built during the town's growth as a market and railway centre. Many of those houses still have their original sash windows — often the finest feature of the building and well worth preserving. At Marches Heritage Restoration, we work across the whole Oswestry area, restoring sash windows to proper working order rather than replacing them.
The approach is straightforward: assess honestly, repair what can be saved, and only replace what genuinely can't be recovered. Victorian slow-grown timber is dense and durable — windows that have lasted 120 years or more can often be made good for another 50 with the right attention. Rotten sills, failed putty, broken sash cords, seized pulleys and draughty frames are all common problems, and all of them are fixable without throwing out the window.
Draught-proofing is one of the most practical improvements you can make to a period property. We fit AQ21 seals and quality weather strip — not brush pile — which removes draughts effectively without affecting how the window looks or moves. The difference in warmth and quietness is immediate, and it costs considerably less than replacement.
We cover Oswestry and the surrounding villages including Gobowen, St Martins, Whittington, Knockin and Llanyblodwel. If you have a listed building or a property in a conservation area, we have experience of working to the standards those properties require. A free survey is the right place to start — we'll look at your windows, tell you honestly what they need, and give you a written estimate before any work begins.
