Newtown & Montgomeryshire
Newtown — Y Drenewydd in Welsh — grew rapidly during the nineteenth century as a centre for the flannel trade, and the town has an excellent stock of Victorian terracing and period properties to show for it. Many of those houses still carry their original sash windows, and at Marches Heritage Restoration, we see them as worth looking after properly.
The repair-first approach means assessing what's actually wrong before reaching for any replacement parts. A window that's draughty may simply need draught-proofing; one that's stuck may need the paint broken back and the cords replaced; one with a rotten sill can often be repaired with a splice or section replacement rather than a whole new frame. Victorian slow-grown timber is dense and durable, and when it's treated with respect it lasts. We use traditional methods throughout — no shortcuts, no covering problems over.
For draught-proofing, we fit AQ21 seals and quality weather strip — not brush pile. These remove draughts without affecting how the window looks or moves, and the improvement to warmth is noticeable immediately. For a period terrace in Newtown, it is one of the most cost-effective improvements available.
We cover Newtown and the surrounding Montgomeryshire area, including Llanidloes, Caersws, Kerry, Abermule and Montgomery. If you have a listed building or a property in a conservation area, we are familiar with the standards and materials those buildings require. A free survey is the right starting point — no obligation, just an honest assessment and a written estimate.
